Dominic L. Matteo, age 81, of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. He was born in North Philadelphia on April 13, 1945, the son of the late Ernest and Anna (Salvati) Matteo. He built his current home in Roxborough alongside his father and it has been the family home for almost 60 years.

Known affectionately as Dom, he shared nearly 60 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Eileen. Anyone could see that each time he looked at her, he still saw the same woman he fell in love with all those years ago. Dom adored Eileen and they had an unwavering partnership, devotion, and love that were the foundation of his happiest days. They created a family life rich in tradition, faith, and warmth, stemming from their Italian Irish roots. Dom relished in making many memorable meals alongside Eileen, like their traditional ham and cabbage (with garlic) and Seven Fishes Christmas Eve dinners. In later years, he enjoyed supervising in the kitchen and testing everything that Eileen cooked.

Dom was immensely proud of his two sons, Dominic (Nick) and Brian. He raised them with the same kindness, strength, and integrity that defined his own life — teaching them to be gentlemen, to treat others with respect, and to always protect and care for those they loved.

He had a long career as a Blacksmith with Ornamental Iron. Although much of his craft work went unnoticed, there were notable contributions such as an iron gate on Temple University’s campus, and a pulpit and communion gate at St. Mary of the Eternal.

Dom enjoyed trips to the shore, taking walks, sitting outside, meeting all the neighborhood dogs, and fishing. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family. He loved to see his children and grandchildren and there was never a time, he did not say I love you when saying good-bye. Everyone would agree, Dom’s most memorable trait was his laugh. It was hearty and contagious, and that sound will be missed the most.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen Matteo (née Berry) of Roxborough; two sons, Nick (Hollie) Matteo of Wyndmoor and Brian (Stephanie) Matteo of Aston; four grandchildren, Anna, Kayla, Niko and Madison.; and his nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Castellani.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 10:30 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church, 819 Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128.  Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM in Church prior to Mass.

Interment will take place in Holy Sepulchre, Cheltenham.
