Doris F. Spedding, age 91, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Born on May 7, 1934, in Philadelphia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Erasmus and Flora (Shoppe) Burger.
Doris was raised in Northeast Philadelphia and spent most of her life in Roxborough, building a home centered around family, friendship, and togetherness. She had a deep love for travel and adventure. Whether it was time spent at the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey, summers at her cherished cabin, or trips with friends and family, she embraced every opportunity to explore and to gather the people she loved around her.
Family was the heart of Doris’s world. She was present for the big milestones and the quiet everyday moments alike. She took great pride in being part of her grandchildren’s lives cheering them on, celebrating their accomplishments, and making memories that will last generations. She rarely attended an event without a camera in hand, determined to capture each smile, each hug, each fleeting moment that mattered.
Doris had a vibrant social spirit. She loved hosting gatherings, throwing parties, and bringing the Spedding family together. She was truly the rock of the family, the steady presence who kept everyone connected. If you were a Spedding, you knew Doris. She made sure of it. As the years went on, she continued to nurture her friendships, organizing luncheons and trips so that bonds remained strong and no one drifted too far apart.
She also had a special love for her dogs and was especially devoted to raising her beloved Afghan hounds. Her home was always full of life; family, friends, laughter, and loyal companions at her side.
Doris was the devoted wife of the late Harry W. Spedding.
She is survived by her sons, Edward Scott Spedding (Arlene Kaufman) of Philadelphia and Robert T. Spedding of Cape May Courthouse, NJ; six grandchildren, Ian Spedding (Lisa Scipione), Gabrielle Spedding, Christine Geiger (Daniel), Robert Spedding (Nina), Jamie Spedding, and Jack Spedding; and six great-grandchildren, Damien, Collin, Isabel, Lili, Allison, and Harley.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Harry James Spedding and Michael Spedding, and her grandson, Michael S. Spedding.
Doris leaves behind a legacy of love, connection, tradition, and celebration. Her family was her greatest joy, and the memories she created, preserved in photographs and in the hearts of those she loved , will continue to live on.
