Edward E. Lawton, age 95, of the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

He was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 3, 1930, the son of the late Edward J. and Frances (McBride) Lawton.

Ed was raised in Saint Agatha Parish in West Philadelphia and was a graduate of the former St. Thomas More High School, Class of 1949. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a member of the First Forward Observer Artillery Battalion. He was awarded two Purple Heart Medals for his service.

Ed had a long career as a Firefighter for the Philadelphia Fire Department, serving from 1958 until his retirement as a Lieutenant in 1992. Following his retirement, he worked in Security for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 1985 until 2012.

Ed especially loved traveling the world with his wife and family. He also enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Teresa Lawton (née Collins) of Roxborough; and five children, Nancy Lawton of Roxborough, Edward J. (Tiffani) Lawton of Petersburg, NJ, Monica (Tom) Rosko of Eagle River, AK, Jennifer (David) McLoughlin of Burlingame, CA, and Bridget (Pete) Keretz of Downingtown, PA.

He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Molly Lawton (Jacob Bellina), Seaman Eamon Lawton USCG, Kieran Lawton, Ingrid Rosko, Fiona Rosko, 2nd Lieutenant Maeve Rosko USAF, Prudence Rosko, Sasha Rosko, Victoria Keretz and Patrick Keretz; and three great grandchildren, Saoirse Bellina-Lawton, Ronan Bellina-Lawton, and Alejandro Keretz-Martinez.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Joseph Lawton; and two sisters, Mary Wood and Kathleen Donahue.

Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the McIlvaine Mundy Funeral Home & Crematory, 7384 Ridge Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19128; and on Thursday morning in Holy Family Church, 234 Hermitage St. Philadelphia, PA 19127 from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.

Interment will take place on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 9:30 AM precisely in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Those attending the committal service are asked to arrive to the cemetery by 9:10AM.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Family Home at 5300 Chester Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19143.
