Janet S. Murphy, age 98, of Blue Bell, PA passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

She was born in Newburgh, NY and was a daughter of the late Harry F. and Margery V. (McGillin) Smith.

Janet lived most of her life in the Andorra section of Philadelphia before moving to Normandy Farms Estates, where she had resided for 12 years. She was a former active parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Andorra, for sixty years, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and participated in many parish ministries. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church in North Wales.

Janet was a proud 1948 graduate of Chestnut Hill College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. She remained an active member of the Alumnae Association throughout her life. She was a talented golfer and member of Sandy Run Country Club. Janet was also a member and treasurer of the former Iris Club of Philadelphia.

She was a swimmer and enjoyed walking, especially in Fairmount Park and the Morris Arboretum. Janet was a fan of Philly U and Villanova University basketball teams. She loved watching her grandchildren compete in sporting events, travelling throughout the area to cheer them on.

Janet also enjoyed playing bridge with friends and was an active volunteer at Attic Treasures while residing at Normandy Farms.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. "Ned" Murphy. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Bill) Leighton, Patricia (the late Bob) Zoltek, and Anita (Ross) Vitali, and one son, Christopher (Connie) Murphy.

Janet is also survived by eight grandchildren, Megan (Johnathan) Magarity, Amy (Anand) Menon, Lauren Zoltek, Michael Leighton, Stephen (Megan) Vitali, Ali (Dominic) Cancro, Matthew Murphy and Kevin Murphy; as well as six great grandchildren, Maeve Magarity, Murphy Magarity, Reagan Vitali, Rooney Vitali, Emilia Cancro and Chloe Cancro. Janet was a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews and lifelong friend to many others.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harry "Bud" Smith and sister, Margery MacDonald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, 428 S. Main St., North Wales, PA 19454. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, January 3 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the Church.

Interment will be private.
