John Dawson McCullough

John Dawson McCullough, “John the Cool”, age 17, of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025 following an unexpected cardiac event.

He was born in Meadowbrook, PA on November 8, 2008, the son of Shawn P. and Nina M. (Newmaster) McCullough.

John and his family have been living in the Andorra section of Philadelphia for nine years, formerly of Glenside, PA. He was a graduate of Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Class of 2023. He was presently a Junior at Archbishop John Carroll High School, where he played baseball and soccer. He was also instrumental in founding the Carroll Wiffle Ball Club. John loved playing and watching baseball. He was an avid Phillies fan. He was also a Flyers fan and enjoyed watching pro wrestling. John was a strong and resilient young man, surviving a brain tumor as a child and growing into a young man who was beloved and will be dearly missed by many. 

He is survived by his parents, Shawn and Nina McCullough; sister, Sophia McCullough; and grandparents, Suzann and Ronald Newmaster, and Susan and William Durphy. John will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128. 

The family will receive relatives and friends in church on Thursday evening, November 20 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM; and on Friday morning, November 21 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM prior to Mass. 

Interment will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA. 

In lieu of flowers, John’s family would appreciate memorial contributions made in his name to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia or the Christy McCall Arts Scholarship or the Glenside Gaelic Club, PO Box 824, Glenside, PA 19038.
