Fr. Bernard C. Farley II, age 84 of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on August 6, 2026.
Born on February 27, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James J. Farley, Jr. and Emily Farley (née O'Connor).
Fr. Farley was raised in St. John the Baptist Parish and was a graduate of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. Ordained in 1968, he served as a faithful Priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He served as a Parochial Vicar at St. Francis of Assisi, Norristown, St. Joachim, Philadelphia, St. Gabriel, Philadelphia, St. Anne, Philadelphia, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Philadelphia, and Epiphany of Our Lord, Philadelphia before being named Pastor of Nativity BVM, Philadelphia, where he served from 1991 - 1995. Fr. Farley then served as Chaplain of St. John Neumann Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare from 1995 until his retirement in 2017. Fr. Farley also served as the Chaplain to St. Maria Goretti High School from 1978 - 1982.
Fr. Farley remained active in his retirement assisting at many local parishes. He served as the Kairos retreat chaplain for LaSalle College High School for over 25 years, assisting at over 150 retreats. LaSalle honored him with an honorary diploma in 2026 in appreciation for his many years of dedicated service.
Fr. Farley is survived by his sister, Catherine Farley Gallagher; as well as many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews.
Along with his parents, Fr. Farley was preceded in death by two sisters, Emily Rafter and Mary Maiden; and two brothers, James Farley and John Farley.
Reception of the Body will take place on Thursday, August 13 at 9:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 E. Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128, followed by a viewing until 10:45 AM. The Most Rev. Nelson Pérez will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd.
In lieu of flowers, Fr. Farley's family would appreciate memorial contributions made in his name to the St. John the Baptist Restoration Fund, 146 Rector St., Philadelphia, PA 19128.
